Invisalign is Clearly Different

Invisalign is a revolutionary treatment method that does away with the metal brackets and wires of traditional braces. Instead, Invisalign uses a series of clear, customized aligners that fit directly onto the dental arch to straighten teeth. They're made of a clear, translucent material and are completely removable, which means they're virtually invisible when worn and carry none of the dietary restrictions of traditional braces.

How Does Invisalign Work?

First, you'll come to our office for a comprehensive orthodontic exam. During this visit, we'll determine what problems are present and decide on the best way to go about treatment. We'll also take precise measurements of your mouth and teeth, using these to construct a fully realized 3D computer model of your bite. Based on this model, Dr. Teper-Adler will formulate a treatment plan and send precise instructions to Invisalign's parent company. From these instructions, they'll manufacture a completely customized series of aligners for your treatment - as few as 12 or as many as 48. You'll wear each set for about 2 weeks, 22 hours a day, before moving on to the next, and with each new pair of aligners, your teeth will move closer to their final position.

We Are a Certified Platinum Provider

Dr. Teper-Adler is proud to have reached Invisalign Platinum Provider status in 2008, and she brings a wealth of experience to this method. Often, she is able to successfully treat patients with this method that were previously told they would not be candidates for Invisalign.

Commom Invisalign FAQ

Q. How long do I have to wear aligners?

A.  20-22 hours a day, but preferably closer to 22. Really, you should only take them out to eat, drink, brush, and floss.

Q. Do I have to avoid certain foods?

A.  Nope! Because they're removable, you can still eat all the sticky or hard foods you want. Just be sure to brush your teeth and aligners thoroughly!

Q. Will I have a lisp or other speech problem?

A.  There's usually an "adjustment period" where your speech is noticeably impacted, but this ends quickly.

Q. Does it hurt?

A.  Most patients feel some pressure or minor discomfort for a few days after each new aligner, but Invisalign doesn't really "hurt."

Q. Can I chew gum?

A.  If you want to chew gum, you'll need to remove your aligners to do so.

Q. Can I smoke?

A.  The best thing is to quit, but if you need to smoke, you'll need to take your aligners off to do so.

Q. How do I clean them?

A.  Cleaning is easy - just brush them like you would a retainer every time you take them out.

Q. How often will I have to come to the office?

A.  We'll try to schedule appointment every five or six weeks. This will let us check up on you periodically and ensure your treatment is going according to plan.

Q. Will I need retainers once I'm done?

A.  You will need retainers, but you're in luck - you can just use the last aligner from your Invisalign as a retainer!

Q. How long does it take?

A.  Treatment times vary greatly from patient to patient, but usually it lasts around 6-18 month.

Q. Can kids get Invisalign?

A.  Absolutely! As long as all the permanent teeth (including second molars) have erupted completely, we can use Invisalign.
